2026 Kia Niro (Hybrid) updates trims & standard tech

The Kia Niro Hybrid represents the hybrid-electric variant of the second-generation Niro CUV, introduced in 2022. Positioned alongside plug-in hybrid and all-electric versions, the Niro Hybrid remains part of a single nameplate offered with three electrified powertrains in the United States.

For 2026, the Niro drops the EX Touring trim. The lineup includes LX, EX, EX Premium, SX, and SX Touring, though we couldn’t spot the EX Premium on the official Kia website.

We had the opportunity to check it out in the flesh, and here’s everything that’s different in the 2026 model year:

Design

For 2026, Kia keeps the Niro Hybrid’s styling unchanged but revises trim finishes and wheel options. The mid-tier EX Touring is replaced by a new EX Premium trim that swaps 18-inch alloys for 16-inch units and uses silver-painted skid plates instead of chrome.

Body-color mirrors replace the gloss-black finish, and the satin chrome door handles are now reserved for upper trims. The high-end SX Touring features LED projection headlights, but the two top variants shift to LED multi-reflector front fog lights instead of projection fog lights in the 2025 model.

At the front, the Niro continues with a tiger-nose grille paired with upswept daytime running lights. The side profile includes contrasting cladding that starts at the front intakes and continues around the wheels to the bottom of the door panels.

The rear uses boomerang-shaped LED taillights and simplified surface treatments with a small roof spoiler, and the boomerang shape is repeated around the registration plate.

Interior

For the 2026 model year, the new mid-level EX Premium gains a power tailgate and Harman Kardon audio with a subwoofer, features previously limited to higher trims.

Moreover, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay become standard across all trims, and the Digital Key 2.0 Touch function is added to the higher SX and SX Touring variants. The 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation is now standard from the EX upward.

Infotainment continues to be handled by an 8-inch touchscreen display on the LX, while all other trims get a larger unit with navigation, as well as a wireless charging pad.

As before, cabin uses materials selected to reduce environmental impact, including recycled and bio-based components. Cargo volume behind the rear seats measures 22.8 cubic feet.

Specifications

There are no mechanical changes for the 2026 model year. Power is supplied via a 1.6-liter GDI four-cylinder engine paired with a 32-kW permanent magnet synchronous electric motor to produce a total system output of 139 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque.

Drive is transferred through a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, sending power only to the front wheels across all trims. The combined EPA-estimated fuel economy is 53 mpg, with an estimated total driving range reaching 588 miles under combined driving conditions.

Price & Release Date

The 2026 Kia Niro Hybrid is available across U.S. dealerships. Pricing for the 2026 Niro Hybrid starts at USD 27,090 for the LX, USD 29,890 for the EX, USD 33,090 for the SX, and USD 35,490 for the SX Touring. Prices exclude a USD 1,445 destination charge.

As mentioned earlier, the EX Premium trim is included in the 2026 model year announcement but does not appear on Kia’s official website at this time.
