2026 Volvo EX30 Cross Country reveals its rugged side

For adventure-minded customers in the U.S. who want their EX30 to look more rugged and be more capable, there is a Cross Country version available for the 2026 model year. Recently, we got up close with the 2026 Volvo EX30 Cross Country, and here are the changes that we spotted.

Design

The EX30 Cross Country has 19 mm (0.74 in.) more ground clearance, unique 19-inch black wheels with bespoke all-terrain tires, exclusive skid plates, and distinctive black panels on the front bumper and tailgate. A map-like pattern of Sweden’s Kebnekaise mountain differentiates the front section, making its Scandinavian roots evident.

Interior

The interior of the EX30 has only small changes. It is offered in the exclusive “Pine” scheme, which is a Wool Blend & Nordico upholstery, with tones of green. The door bins have additional storage as the speakers have been incorporated into the soundbar on the dashboard.

Besides these changes, we couldn’t find anything different from the standard car. The dashboard features the same vertical 12.3-inch touchscreen at the center, integrating most controls including climate and navigation, which we found a little distracting during our review of the EX30. Features like Google built-in software and app-based preconditioning are carried over.

Experience in the 2026 EX30 Cross Country

Entry and exit are easy even for a 6-foot-tall adult in both rows. The doors close with a solid thunk, consistent with the build quality associated with Volvo cars. The cabin’s minimalist layout stood out immediately, with no instrument cluster or head-up display. The design choice, which was inspired by Teslas, will require an adjustment period for drivers who use traditional layouts.

Headroom was generous in the front, the fixed headrest was supportive, and lumbar support was good. Forward and side visibility were clear, while rear visibility was limited by the short rear glass. The steering wheel rim could be thicker in future iterations.

Rear seat space is good for a subcompact SUV. Knee room and legroom were adequate, though the slightly raised knee position reduced under-thigh support. The floor wasn’t fully flat, but the rear backrest angle felt comfortable. The center seat is not suitable for adults. Material quality was consistent front to back, with soft wool-blend upholstery and some hard plastics in lower areas.

Specifications

The EX30 Cross Country uses the Twin Motor Performance setup from the EX30 range. The 422 hp AWD system enables a 0-60 mph acceleration in 3.5 seconds, making it one of the quickest subcompact SUVs. The EPA-estimated range is up to 227 miles, with Volvo claiming up to a 28-minute fast charge from 10-80%.

The all-wheel drive and higher ground clearance give it traction and capability suited for snow, gravel, and rough road conditions, with a range compromise.

Pricing & Release Date

The 2026 Volvo EX30 Cross Country comes only in the Twin Motor Ultra model for the U.S., where the starting MSRP is set at USD 49,445 (incl. destination). The Hyundai Ioniq 5 XRT, Subaru Trailseeker, Toyota bZ Woodland, and the Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally aren’t all direct competitors, but have a similar attitude.
