Ram is bringing back a familiar name to its commercial lineup with the debut of the all-new 2027 Ram ProMaster City, a midsize work van designed to give small businesses a maneuverable, affordable option in the growing delivery and service market.
The ProMaster City rejoins the Ram Professional portfolio as a Class 2 commercial van that blends compact exterior dimensions with serious cargo capability. Ram says the new model delivers more than 167 cubic feet of cargo space, a payload capacity exceeding 2,000 pounds, and a targeted starting price under $40,000 when it arrives at dealerships in the first quarter of 2027.
Ram executives believe the vehicle will occupy a unique position in the U.S. market.
“When the new ProMaster City arrives at dealerships early next year, it will be the only midsize commercial van on sale in the U.S.,” said Tim Kuniskis, head of North American brands and retail marketing for Stellantis. “Despite our unique market position, Ram Professional isn’t coasting; we’re raising the competitive bar and delivering on small-business expectations.”
The new van will be available in Tradesman and SLT trims, offered as either a cargo van or passenger wagon with seating for five or eight. It joins the broader Ram Professional lineup that includes the Ram 1500, heavy-duty Ram trucks, chassis-cab models, and the larger ProMaster van.
Built for Small Businesses and Urban Work

The ProMaster City is engineered specifically for the types of jobs that dominate urban and suburban commercial fleets. From package delivery and contractor services to passenger transportation, the van’s design focuses on efficiency, maneuverability, and durability.
A front-wheel-drive unibody architecture underpins the van, delivering several benefits for commercial use. The design increases torsional rigidity while reducing weight and mechanical complexity. It also allows for a low cargo floor and flat load area, which improves usability when loading tools, equipment, or freight.
Urban maneuverability was another major focus. The ProMaster City rides on a 129-inch wheelbase and features a turning diameter just over 42 feet, making it easier to navigate tight streets, crowded job sites, and parking structures.
The van also maintains a relatively low overall height—just under 77 inches—allowing it to fit inside most parking garages, a key requirement for delivery services operating in dense cities.
Cargo Space and Capability Designed for Real Work

For commercial buyers, cargo capacity often determines whether a van can handle the job. Ram says the 2027 ProMaster City was designed to maximize usable space in every dimension.
The van provides over 167 cubic feet of cargo capacity with a 111-inch load floor, long enough to accommodate common construction materials like drywall sheets and 4-by-8-foot plywood. The cargo floor sits just over 23 inches off the ground, making loading and unloading easier throughout a workday.
Between the rear wheel wells, the van offers more than 48 inches of width, enough to carry a standard pallet. In total, the ProMaster City can accommodate two pallets front to back, expanding its usefulness for delivery services and logistics fleets.
The cargo area’s square roofline and minimal taper toward the top help maintain nearly identical dimensions from floor to ceiling, allowing shelving systems and modular workstations to fit efficiently inside.
Capability numbers remain strong for a van of this size. The 2027 ProMaster City offers over 2,000 pounds of payload capacity and a targeted 2,000-pound towing rating when equipped with the optional Class 3 trailer hitch.
Access to the cargo area is flexible as well. A passenger-side sliding door comes standard, with an opening more than 36 inches wide and 48 inches tall. At the rear, customers can choose 180-degree swing doors or an optional rear liftgate, the latter adding visibility and quick one-step cargo access.
Turbocharged Powertrain and Modern Technology

Powering the 2027 ProMaster City is a turbocharged 1.6-liter inline-four engine paired with an Aisin-sourced eight-speed automatic transmission. The all-aluminum engine produces 166 horsepower and 221 lb.-ft. of torque, balancing efficiency with the low-speed torque needed for hauling cargo in urban environments.
The transmission features a 3.33:1 final drive ratio and optimized shift points for city driving. Drivers can also manually select gears using steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters, providing additional control when climbing grades or towing.
Inside the cabin, Ram has added technology features that are uncommon in many commercial vehicles. Standard equipment includes a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, and smartphone connectivity through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The van also introduces a wide range of standard safety features, including:
- Forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking
- Automatic headlamps with LED daytime running lights
- Digital rearview mirror
- Driver attention alert
- Hill-start assist
- Rear backup camera and parking sensors
- Programmable speed limiter
Passenger Wagon models add second- and third-row side-curtain airbags.
Comfort features such as heated front seats, a tilt-and-telescoping steering column, and one-touch power windows aim to improve driver comfort during long workdays. Higher SLT trims add amenities like front parking sensors and a wireless phone charger.
Production and Availability

Ram plans to open order books in the second half of 2026, with production beginning later that year. The vans will be assembled at the TOFAS plant in Bursa, Turkey, with additional commercial upfitting performed at the Baltimore Transformation Center in the United States.
It will be subject to tariffs like the 25% Chicken Tax and Ram said they plan to absorb that tariff.
Dealership deliveries are expected to begin in early 2027, with the ProMaster City positioned as the lowest cost of acquisition in the commercial van segment, thanks to its targeted starting price below $40,000.
For Ram, the return of the ProMaster City signals a renewed focus on the small-business market.
