The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 XRT variant reached U.S. dealers early this year. Since then, many American buyers have been intrigued by what this rugged variant offers over the standard variants.
We got to spend time with an example finished in the exclusive Cosmic Blue Pearl finish, and our initial impression was clear: the XRT is noticeably tougher and sharper than the standard model.

The first thing we noticed was its bold front and rear bumpers, both enhanced with angular shapes and pixel-inspired designs. Visible tow hooks and protective skid plates confirm its rugged intentions. The XRT trim also carries digital camouflage cladding along the sides, etched to highlight the added toughness.
The suspension lift caught our attention next. The Ioniq 5 XRT sits 0.9 inches higher, offering 7 inches of clearance. Improved approach and departure angles of 19.8 and 30 degrees mean it’s well prepared for uneven terrain. Hyundai has tuned the suspension specifically for better off-road stability.

The wheels further highlight the XRT’s all-road focus. Matte black 18-inch wheels equipped with 235/60 R18 all-terrain tires improve grip on dirt and gravel. Higher sidewalls improve ride comfort on uneven surfaces.
The blacked-out theme extends to window surrounds, mirror caps, and even the Hyundai badges. It’s clear that the Korean stylists felt that chrome or the facelift’s silver bumpers would not suit this rugged Hyundai.

Inside, Hyundai maintains consistency with black H-Tex seating, a synthetic leather alternative, sporting unique XRT branding. Stitched branding on the seats and exclusive patterns improve the rugged look of the interior. The cabin follows through with a black headliner and XRT-specific all-weather floor mats.
Finally, Hyundai includes a dedicated Terrain Mode, activated by a steering wheel button. This allows drivers to select between Sand and Mud settings, optimizing traction and stability in loose conditions. It’s clear Hyundai wants the Ioniq 5 to drive confidently beyond the asphalt, although this isn’t a full-fledged off-roader.

Priced from $55,500 (MSRP excluding freight and taxes), the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 XRT, with its 259-mile range and 320 hp AWD powertrain, challenges the Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally and the incoming Subaru Trailseeker. Based on our brief time with the Ioniq 5’s top-end variant, Hyundai seems ready for the competition.
