The ministry of transport has ordered Prasarana to enhance safety measures in place at all light rail transit (LRT) stations, including the installation of passenger safety doors, reported New Straits Times.
This is to prevent a recurrence of incidents such as the one involving a Taiwan national who died after falling on to the LRT track at the Pusat Bandar Puchong LRT station yesterday, said transport minister Anthony Loke.
“In terms of safety measures, I have asked Prasarana to plan to install passenger safety doors at all LRT and MRT stations. For this reason, for new MRT stations, there are safety doors, we have one [automated] door before the train arrives,” Loke said.
The monorail service has also been prepared for the safety enhancements, however the Ampang LRT line is comprised of stations of an older design which may have yet to receive the newer safety doors on their platforms, the transport minister said. “So, that is something I have asked Prasarana to implement,” Loke added.
Meanwhile, investigations into the death of the Taiwanese national are underway, Serdang police chief assistant commissioner Muhamad Farid Ahmad said.
