2027 Chevrolet Bolt is back for Round Two

Almost 10 years after the launch of the original hatchback concept, the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt returns to the U.S. and Canada in the EUV body style with updated technology, a 255-mile range, faster charging, a new battery, and an all-new RS trim.

We recently got to check out the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt LT in person, in the Marina Blue Metallic body color, and here’s what we think of Chevy’s crossover, which returns after a hiatus of two years.

Design

The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt is a deep facelift of the Bolt EUV. A noticeable new design feature is a black trim connecting the headlamps and the replacement of the “grille” mesh pattern with a smoother body-colored panel. The size of the actual intake below increases for a more upright look, which widens as you move downward.

Moving to the sides, the changes are hard to find with the redeeming feature in the RS trim being the glossy black wheels and the loss of silver accents in the side skirts. At the back, things get more interesting with the taillights getting an all-new look, featuring a sharper horizontal LED treatment in a horizontal Y shape.

The bumper also loses the excessive black plastic treatment near the boot and now has a cleaner, body-colored panel extending lower into the body. The model offers seven exterior paint choices and 17-inch wheels in three finishes with the RS trim available in an exclusive Atomic Yellow color.

Interior

The cabin features an 11.3-inch infotainment screen as standard and an upsized 11-inch driver information display with the dashboard integrating a mix of physical and touch controls. The RS trim features exclusive red interior accent stitching to help it stand out.

The new model replaces the push-button center console-based drive selector with a stalk-style shifter on the steering column, and the central console transforming into a floating-style armrest with more usable space underneath. Available features include a panoramic sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and wireless phone charging.

Experience in the 2027 Bolt

Entry is straightforward, and the front row accommodates a six-footer comfortably, with generous headroom and adequate leg space. Back support is strong, the headrests feel comfortable, and the shoulder bolstering provides enough lateral stability for everyday use.

Under-thigh support meets expectations for this segment, and pedal placement offers good room even for large footwear, making the driving position easy to settle into.

The center console is noticeably better. GM adds a wireless charging pad, a redesigned storage layout, and a large touchscreen for MY27, but is staying away from offering Apple CarPlay. Piano black trim surrounds the touch-based HVAC controls. While the interface remains simple to operate, the glossy panels attracts fingerprints and will require frequent cleaning.

Rear-seat space is more usable than the exterior dimensions suggest. The flat floor helps entry and exit, and knee room is respectable thanks to slightly scooped-out front seat backs. Headroom remains acceptable for a six-footer, though the window line rises toward the rear, limiting outward visibility, and making the experience here feel a bit confined during long journeys.

Rear seating position is slightly knee-up because of the battery under the floor, and under-thigh support is average for a six-footer. Three adjustable rear headrests are included, but the middle-seat occupant will feel squeezed on longer drives. The absence of a rear armrest is a drawback, though two USB-C ports add convenience.

Specifications

The Bolt implements the brand’s first application of a native NACS charging port, eliminating the need for an adapter if using Tesla’s charging network. With its 65 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, GM estimates a driving range of 255 miles (410 km) on a full charge. The Bolt comes with warranty coverage of 8 years or 100,000 miles.

AC charging capability is rated at 11.5 kW, providing up to 40 miles (64 km) of range per hour with a 240V 11.5 kW charger. DC fast charging peaks at 150 kW, and can go from 10-80 percent in 26 minutes.

Price & Release Date

The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt LT launch model carries an MSRP of USD 29,990, including a USD 1,395 DFC and destination, with a lower-priced LT variant scheduled for later next year that starts at USD 28,995. In Canada, it launches at an MSRP of CAD 39,999. Chevrolet will begin shipments early next year in both markets with dealer availability scheduled for Q1-2026.
