The Hyundai Elantra Hybrid, which got a facelift for the 2024 model year, arrives largely unchanged into 2026, with the mid-level ‘Sport HEV’ renamed as the ‘SEL Sport HEV’ trim. It is Hyundai’s offering for customers looking for a well-equipped compact sedan with the efficiency of a hybrid, and for North American buyers who don’t want the Toyota Corolla Hybrid or the Honda Civic Hybrid.
We recently had the opportunity to check out the compact sedan firsthand, and evaluated whether it still makes a compelling buy in 2026.
Design

There are no body changes for the 2026 model year. At the front, the Elantra Hybrid wears the same shark-nose design with a wider stance which was introduced in 2024. Thin LED daytime running lights sit above a metallic connecting bar, and a two-piece grille which includes a body-colored center section.
Moving to the sides, the Elantra features the sharp Z-shaped crease and angular contours giving the sedan a sporty look. At the rear, an H-motif graphic with LED taillights spans the width of the body with a wide U-shaped silver diffuser element added to the lower bumper.
The SEL Sport and Limited trims both wear 17-inch wheels with the SEL Sport getting a unique glossy black finish on them. The Blue trim, on the other hand, wears smaller and narrower 16-inch wheels.
Interior

The only feature change we observed is that the Dynamic Voice Recognition is now standard on SEL Sport HEV as well as on Limited HEV, whereas in the 2025 sheet it was only listed for Limited HEV.
For 2026, the Blue HEV continues with the 8-inch display audio head unit, while the other trims use the 10.25-inch navigation system.

The interior of the Elantra remains driver-centric, featuring soft-touch front door panels with Limited trims receiving H-Tex leather seating surfaces while the SEL Sport trim gets black cloth seating. Six speakers are standard on the Blue and SEL Sport trims, while the Limited trim gets an eight-speaker Bose system.
Specifications

The 2026 Elantra Hybrid keeps the same 1.6-liter GDI Atkinson engine, electric motor, combined system output, lithium-ion battery (1.32 kWh), and 6-speed EcoShift DCT as in 2025, with no changes in power, torque, voltage, or drivetrain layout. The hybrid system develops a combined output of 139 hp and 195 lb.-ft. of torque.
The 2026 Elantra Hybrid continues with a wheelbase of 107.1 inches with an overall length of 185.4 inches, a width of 71.9 inches, a height of 55.7 inches, and ground clearance of 5.5 inches. Cargo capacity is a decent 14.2 cubic feet. Wheel, tire, brake, and suspension specs carry-over as well.
Fuel economy is rated at 54 mpg for the Blue trim owing to its smaller, narrower wheels, while the SEL Sport and Limited are rated for 50 mpg as per EPA estimates on combined city and highway usage.
