2026 Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid

The 2026 Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid is the nameplate’s third model year. It carries over unchanged from 2025 except for a black badge overlay on the Hybrid Nightshade grade. It blackens the “Grand Highlander” lettering on the tailgate in the Nightshade Edition, which was previously body-colored.

We spent some time with the top-end 2026 Grand Highlander Hybrid Max Platinum finished in the Blueprint body color to see if it still feels fresh, and here’s what we found.

Design

At the front, the Grand Highlander Hybrid uses an upright three-row SUV form, with a trapezoidal grille integrated into a hammerhead-style fascia. Broad front fenders frame the grille and headlamp units, establishing a wide stance.

The hood line remains low, while the bumper design varies by trim, with darker lower accents used on Nightshade models.

From the side, the Grand Highlander Hybrid is defined by a flat roofline and a long wheelbase. Pronounced wheel arches and black lower body cladding surround the wheels, with sizes ranging from 18 to 20 inches depending on grade.

The Hybrid Nightshade Edition adds 20-inch black alloy wheels, black mirror caps, black door handles, and black roof rails. Wide-opening rear doors aid access to the third row.

At the rear, the design continues with C-shaped taillamps connected by a trim element, with a tall tailgate emphasizing its size. The Nightshade Edition includes a black rear spoiler and black lower bumper accents.

Standard grades retain body-colored or dark-finished trim elements depending on configuration. Exterior color options for Nightshade models include Midnight Black Metallic, Wind Chill Pearl, and Cement.

Interior

Inside, the Hybrid Nightshade Edition models include leather-trimmed seating, a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, captain’s chairs in the second row, ambient lighting, and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster.

Driver information is handled by a 7-inch MID on XLE and LE trims, while upper trims get a 12.3-inch digital cluster. Infotainment is handled by a 12.3-inch screen across all trims, with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay standard. Seven USB-C ports are spread across the cabin in all three rows.

The cabin prioritizes passenger accommodation and cargo flexibility, and seating for up to eight passengers, depending on configuration. With the second and third rows folded, cargo capacity expands to 97.5 cubic feet. Behind the third row, space remains sufficient for multiple carry-on suitcases.

Specifications

The 2026 Grand Highlander Hybrid is offered with multiple configurations. The Hybrid system pairs a 2.5-liter engine with electric motors in a FWD layout on the Hybrid XLE. Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive is standard on the other trims (LE, Limited, and Nightshade), producing a combined 245 horsepower.

For buyers seeking higher output, the Hybrid Max system combines a turbocharged 2.4-liter engine with electric assistance, delivering 362 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque.

Hybrid Max models use Full-Time Electronic All-Wheel Drive with front and rear electric motors and a six-speed automatic transmission. Standard towing capacity is rated at 3,500 pounds for Hybrid models and up to 5,000 pounds for Hybrid Max grades.
