Toyota Teases Electric Grand Highlander? We Share Why We Think That is the Case

Last Tuesday, Toyota shared a teaser photo of a dark vehicle with a double-line illuminated LED taillight. We theorized, wishfully so, that it could be the brand’s new Ford Maverick competitor. Now we know it is a big, 3-row SUV. Given the existence of the Sequoia, Highlander, and Grand Highlander, and the brand’s lack of pure EVs outside of the bZ, a 3-row EV is now our best guess. Here are some details worth checking out.

Muscular Overall Design

We used AI to clean up Toyota’s original image to show more of the silhouette and overall design. This will have a similar clean, and boxy look as the Grand Highlander. The LED lightning placed high at the base of the windows recalls the design of the electic bZ, yet another reason we believe this to be an EV. (Not to mention the strategic lack of lighting at the lower rear of the vehicle, thus hiding if it has tail pipes or not.)

Three Rows of Comfort

Taking a look at the unedited teaser image dropped today, it is clear there will be three rows of seats, with plenty of leg room for all. The big side windows for all three rows are yet another indication of its Grand Highlander-esque design. Interior lighting gives the cabin a very upscale touch, almost Lexus-like.

New Toyota Infotainment

Channeling my inner CSI, I used AI to zoom and enhance the interior image and clearly spot some very nice new details. The most obvious of which is the new, tile-based infotainment screen, taken from the 2026 Toyota RAV4.

Other details I hope to be true from this image, a premium two-tone steering wheel. Though you can see how much the AI struggled with the Toyota logo, so maybe I am just wishing here.

Power Ports for Everyone

The original teaser dropped today shows an illuminated USB-C power port in the third row and large rear windows should make the back row more inhabitable than the already spacious Grand Highlander.

The great thing about EVs is the fact that the wheels can be set further to the front and rear of the platform, enhancing overall cabin space.

Wait Until February 10th for Full Details

We will have to wait until February 10th to get the full scoop. As of Groundhog Day, these are our best guesses as to what Toyota is cooking up. What are your thoughts? Are you sad this is not a mini-truck? Was it time for Toyota to get into the big 3-row EV game, or are they too late now that EV tax credits are gone? Is this still a compelling package?
