Ram is expanding its off-road pickup lineup with the introduction of the 2026 Ram 1500 BackCountry.

This new package is designed to give buyers trail-ready capability without stepping up to the more expensive Rebel or RHO models. Built on the popular Big Horn trim, the BackCountry blends factory-installed off-road equipment with distinctive styling and interior upgrades aimed at adventure-minded truck buyers.

The move comes as demand for off-road capable pickups continues to grow, pushing automakers to expand their portfolios with specialized trims and packages.

“The off-road segment has been growing for a while now and Ram has been leading that charge with Warlock, Rebel, RHO and TRX,” said Tim Kuniskis, Head of American Brands, SRT Performance, North American Marketing and Retail Strategy. “BackCountry is another option from Ram for customers looking to get into this growing part of the market without breaking the bank.”

A New Middle Ground in Ram’s Off-Road Lineup

The 2026 Ram 1500 BackCountry slots between the entry-level Warlock and the more premium Rebel, offering a balance of affordability and capability. The package builds on the Ram 1500 Big Horn 4×4 Crew Cab and incorporates hardware from the brand’s Off-Road Group and Bed Utility Group while adding several unique design elements.

Exterior styling receives a more rugged appearance with Satin Black accents, black lighting bezels and contrasting fender flares, while the lower body and bumpers are finished in Diamond Black Crystal Pearl-Coat. A color-matched grille surround and BackCountry tailgate badging further distinguish the model from other Big Horn trucks.

The truck is also equipped with Satin Black 18-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in 32-inch off-road tires, reinforcing its trail-focused positioning.

Trail-Ready Hardware Comes Standard

To ensure the BackCountry delivers real off-road capability, Ram fitted the package with several functional upgrades.

Key features include:

  • 1-inch suspension lift with heavy-duty shocks
  • Front underbody, transfer case, fuel tank and steering rack skid plates
  • Rear electronic locking differential (ELocker) that doubles as an anti-spin differential when disengaged
  • Selec-Speed off-road cruise control for low-speed trail driving
  • Front tow hooks for recovery situations

Together, the equipment improves ground clearance, traction and underbody protection, allowing the BackCountry to handle rough terrain while remaining usable as a daily driver.

Interior Upgrades and Technology Options

Inside, the BackCountry receives durable vinyl bucket seats with alloy printed mesh inserts, along with all-weather rubber floor mats designed for muddy or sandy environments. A MOLLE seatback storage system adds extra cargo organization for tools and gear.

Additional features depend on the equipment package selected.

The Level 1 Equipment Group adds comfort upgrades such as heated front seats, a heated leather steering wheel, power-adjustable pedals and second-row in-floor storage bins. Exterior upgrades include power-folding heated mirrors, LED courtesy lamps and a rear power sliding window with defrost.

Buyers who step up to the Level 2 Equipment Group gain a more tech-focused interior, including a 7-inch driver information display and a 12-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen with configurable drive modes and Off-Road Info Pages. The package also includes a 10-way power driver seat with lumbar support, dual wireless charging pads, dual-zone automatic climate control, a power tailgate release and a nine-speaker amplified audio system.

Powertrain Choices and Pricing

The BackCountry package can be paired with two engine options: Ram’s 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 with eTorque or the newer 3.0-liter Hurricane twin-turbo inline-six.

Orders for the 2026 Ram 1500 BackCountry are now open, with pricing starting at $62,410 including destination and the Big Horn Level 1 Equipment Group.

Like other Ram trucks, the model is backed by the brand’s 10-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty, which Ram touts as the best coverage offered on a full-size truck in the United States.

With the addition of BackCountry, Ram continues to broaden its off-road lineup, giving buyers another factory-built option that bridges the gap between entry-level trail trucks and high-performance desert runners.
