Currently listed for sale on AutoHunter is this magnificent, restored 1959 Chevrolet El Camino. As the first model year of Chevrolet’s sedan-pickup, it brashly displays General Motors’ answer to Chrysler Corporation’s “Forward Look.” Powering this Bow Tie is a 350 small-block backed by a Powerglide automatic. Other features include mostly original sheet metal, aftermarket air conditioning, retro-look stereo, power four-wheel disc brakes, and more. Painted two-tone turquoise and white with a turquoise and aqua leather interior, this speedy delivery comes from the selling dealer in North Carolina with a clear title.
This 1959 El Camino received a frame-off restoration, with the restorers maintaining the original metal aside from the floor pan, according to the seller; the glass (save the backlite) is also original. The flanks are painted in the attractive combination of turquoise and white. Other features include chrome driver-side mirror, and longitudinal brightwork. The seller also claims the original chrome has been refreshed. A set of 15-inch American Racing Torq Thrust mags is wrapped in 215/75 Dayton Quadra radials.

The cabin is furnished with a turquoise and aqua leather bench seat. Other interior features include a column-mounted automatic shifter, two-spoke steering wheel with ring, under-dash air conditioning, aftermarket retro-look radio, and lap belts.

Instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer and gauges for the oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel. There is also a cluster of aftermarket gauges under the dashboard that shows the oil pressure, temperature, and voltage. If you need the time but not an iPhone distraction, there is also a clock. The odometer shows 1,388 miles, though the title reads mileage-exempt.

The rebuilt 350ci V-8 puts out 330 horsepower with help from a Holley four-barrel and aluminum intake. Also supporting the powerplant are finned valve covers, aluminum radiator, and dual electric fans. A rebuilt two-speed Powerglide automatic also plays a supporting role.

The undercarriage features a rebuilt suspension that includes custom front knuckles and aftermarket shock absorbers. The steering linkage has also been rebuilt. Power four-wheel disc brakes help make this ute stop more like a modern car. A dual exhaust system lets the small-block breathe.

Yes, the Ford Ranchero was the first sedan-pickup, but the 1959 Chevrolet El Camino stole the thunder thanks to classic Atomic Age excess and Ford’s decision to move to the compact Falcon platform the following year. Besides being a looker, the subject of our AutoHunter Spotlight should drive less like an old car than most others you may see. If you can see how this car … er, truck is too cool for school, then you should place a bid before the auction ends on Friday, April 17, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. (PDT).
