The convertible body style has always represented the concept of open-top motoring, and the transition from ICE powertrains does not mean this body style is dead. Rather, here are the dozen electric convertible cars we expect on the market over the next three years.

Denza Z

BYD aims to challenge million-dollar European supercars with the Denza Z.

The Denza Z is a four-seat convertible grand tourer from BYD’s luxury brand, featuring a soft-top retractable roof. It has a fluidic body with headlights reminiscent of the Aventador, a visibly low bonnet with cooling ducts, and slim, lozenge-shaped taillights.

The interior follows a sporty layout without excessive minimalism, unlike most other models across BYD brands. Exposed carbon-fiber trim, buttons and dials for selecting drive mode and performing other key functions, and bucket seats establish a driver-focused, performance-oriented interior.

Packing more than 1,000 hp from a quad-motor setup, the Denza Z hits 0 to 62 mph in less than 2.0 seconds. The electric GT features the DiSus-M magnetorheological suspension from the Yangwang U9 hypercar, second-gen Blade battery with Flash Charging support, and a steer-by-wire system.

New options for the paint, wheels, and interior color scheme may also be among the changes. Maserati will likely make an effort to bring the GranCabrio Folgore’s EPA-est. range from currently 229 miles to somewhere between 240 and 250 miles.

Audi plans to position the production version of the Concept C (pictured) between the TT and R8 segments.

The Audi Concept C, introduced in September 2025, will spawn a new driving enthusiast-focused roadster straddling the TT and R8 segments.

Speaking to Autocar at the world premiere, Gernot Döllner explicitly stated this car won’t be a successor to the TT and suggested that the company will decide its name closer to launch, scheduled in 2027.

The production version of the Audi Concept C will be based on an adapted iteration of the Porsche 718 Electric series’ PPE Sport platform. The battery pack will be placed behind the seats, aimed at mimicking the mid-engined layout of a conventional sports car. Like the concept, the final version that hits the roads should feature an electrically retractable hardtop.

The future model is likely to hit 0-60 mph as quickly as 1.1 seconds, with a so-called ‘SpaceX package’ that adds around ten small rocket thrusters.

Porsche informed investors in the prospectus for its IPO on September 19, 2022, that it is investing in the Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen plant in preparation for the launch of the 718 Boxster Electric.

The 718 Boxster Electric appears to have a longer wheelbase, which could be an essential upgrade over the gas-powered current Boxster to clear up room for a battery pack similar to the Porsche Mission R’s 82 kWh unit. It has charging ports in the middle of the rear bumper and even in the front trunk.

A week after Porsche management tested the 718 EV at the beginning of March 2026, CEO Dr. Michael Leiters said during the company’s annual analyst and investor conference that “it is a great car and people are doing a great job working on that.”

The Rolls-Royce Project Nightingale is the brand’s first all-electric convertible and the first model under its new Coachbuild Collection. At 226.8 inches, it is nearly as long as the standard-wheelbase Phantom and anything but a mere drop-top version of the all-electric Spectre.

The Project Nightingale has an upright front in true Rolls-Royce fashion, centered around the signature Pantheon Grille and distinctively designed slim, vertical headlamps reminiscent of classic cars.

The side profile reveals a long hood, a dramatically raked windshield, a compact passenger cell, and a fast-sloping tail section. At the rear, the split lamps mirror the vertical alignment of the headlamps but extend from the upper surface to the lower section in an angled form.

The interior of the Project Nightingale focuses on opulent styling and fine craftsmanship rather than digitalization and electronic features. The new electric convertible is strictly a two-seater, with sales limited to 100 units worldwide.

Codenamed BMW NA2, the i4 Cabriolet will be a Neue Klasse EV, featuring the sixth-gen eDrive, a new software platform, and new sustainability measures.

Thanks to cylindrical cells that are lighter and offer 20% more energy density and 30% enhanced range compared to the currently used prismatic cells, BMW could be able to keep the i4 relatively light despite its folding roof mechanism and reinforcements.

BMW will reportedly manufacture the i4 Cabriolet in Germany, starting in July 2028.
