While it is generally agreed that the first muscle car was the Pontiac GTO, the early Oldsmobile 88 could well be a contender, especially when you think of the high-compression engine that was available in Oldsmobile’s cheapest series. By the 1960s, there were two 88 models, with the Dynamic 88 starting at the bottom. That didn’t mean it was austere, though, as evidenced by this very nice 1962 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 Holiday Coupe currently listed for sale on AutoHunter. Painted dark green over a super cool-looking dark green vinyl and gray cloth interior, this Rocket-powered Olds is offered by the selling dealer with fender skirts, jack, spare tire, owner’s manual, and clear title.
I love the end of the jet-age styling that can be seen in this Dynamic 88 that I never get tired looking at. I honestly prefer it to the Chevy Impala of the same era, yet the Olds 88 seems to fly under the radar a bit in comparison.

The body on this car is in excellent condition, not surprising since it received a restoration a few years back. That restoration seems to have held up well as this looks like a nice example of a car you don’t see every day. The seller notes that during the restoration, the color was changed from its original Willow Mist to the green it is now.

The interior is in excellent condition. The seats and door cards have had to be replaced and are in terrific shape and complement the exterior nicely. The interior has been changed during the restoration from its original Medium Green cloth and vinyl upholstery to the dark green and grey you see now. It is equipped with power steering, manual windows, split-bench seat, and factory AM radio. The only real wear points are the carpets, which show some fading.

Under the hood is the Oldsmobile 394ci Rocket V-8 that has recently been rebuilt. The engine (if not the entire engine compartment) not only looks to be in excellent condition, but also correct for the era. This truly appears like a good restoration of a fun American car.

The underside of this car is more of the same and, while not quite spotless, is pretty close. Every part of the floor pan looks excellent, as do the underside of the engine and transmission. I did not see any surface rust or evidence of leaking anywhere. This is a well-restored and clean example.

From a buyer’s perspective, this 1962 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 offers plenty of cool V-8-powered Americana for the money. While not a muscle car, it looks cooler than most other American vehicles of the era.
If this 1962 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 Holiday Coupe is as intriguing to you as it is to me, then you should bid now as the auction ends Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. (PDT).
