Chronology
A GM product investigator discovered in April 2026 that the kit provided to dealers for installation of an accessory brake package (RPO 5JL) did not include separate instructions or special fasteners for vehicles equipped with 24-inch wheels, as required by GM’s specifications. As a result, dealers may have incorrectly reused production-installed bolts. GM also found that its electronic parts catalog (EPC) did not identify the correct bolt for service operations involving replacement or reattachment of the front hub bearing on vehicles equipped with 24-inch wheels.
Seven field complaints potentially associated with this condition were reported to GM on: January 9, 2025, August 4, 2025, September 13, 2025, October 29, 2025, November 25, 2025, December 18, 2025, and April 13, 2026. GM is not aware of any crashes or injuries associated with this condition. GM’s Safety Field Action Decision Authority (SFADA) decided to conduct a safety recall on May 7, 2026.
