One of Ford’s best sellers in the early 1960s was its lightweight, compact Falcon. It went on to provide the foundation for the legendary Mustang pony car, and it remains a popular platform for customization today. The Pick of the Day is a 1962 Ford Falcon two-door sedan that was reworked to incorporate later-model bucket seats, modern audio, and air conditioning. You can find it listed on ClassicCars.com by a private seller in Sun City West, Arizona. Â
“A carefully-restored and subtly-customized build designed with an emphasis on drivability, comfort, reliability and clean period-correct styling,” the listing says. “The car retains the character of an early Falcon while incorporating numerous subtle, yet tasteful upgrades throughout.”

The unibody Falcon, debuting for 1960, made Ford the first manufacturer out of the Big Three to offer a compact car. It became an immense success; over 1.5 million units were sold in the car’s first four years. One advertisement said, “More from the car America loves most!” It called out some of the key highlights of the car for 1962, including:
- Top Economy: The Falcon Six recorded the best gas mileage in the 25-year history of the Mobilgas Economy Run
- Biggest Choice of Compacts: 13 models including the Falcon Squire Wagon
- Most Luxury: Referring to the Falcon Futura (“Compact cousin of the Thunderbird”)
- Low Price: “America’s greatest compact-car value”

This Falcon two-door went through a full rotisserie restoration about 14,000 miles ago. In addition to getting a coat of Ford Ice Blue Metallic paint, the car received updates such as a fiberglass hood, 1963 Falcon grille, and 1963 Ford Galaxie taillights. I guess we could call the car a “Falaxie” or a “Galcon.”

Moving to the interior, the patterned cloth seats were retrofitted from a Dodge Stratus. Interior features include fabricated armrests, smoothed dash, Vintage Air A/C, Pioneer audio system, sound-deadening insulation, power windows, electric wipers, and digital instrumentation. “The A/C blows very cold,” the listing says.

Under the hood is a 200ci inline-six featuring an aluminum cylinder head, 600cfm Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, flat-top pistons, Isky 256 cam, aluminum intake manifold, electronic ignition, aluminum radiator with electric fans, headers, and more. Power is fed to the back wheels via a C4 three-speed automatic transmission and eight-inch rear axle.
“A unique and highly-sorted early Falcon that would make an excellent cruiser, weekend car, or long-distance vintage driver,” the listing concludes. Â
The asking price is $25,000, and the car will come with restoration documentation, build photos, wiring diagrams, parts receipts, mechanical documentation, battery trickle charger, and spare parts. Be sure to check out the seller’s walk-around video.
