AutoHunter Spotlight: 1953 Lincoln Capri Convertible

Share

Currently listed for sale on AutoHunter is this restored 1953 Lincoln Capri convertible, a luxury drop-top from an era when the brand won its class and swept 7th through 10th place at the 1953 Carrera Panamericana. Powering this Lincoln is a 317ci “Y-block” V-8 backed by a four-speed automatic transmission. Features include rear fender skirts, power windows and power seat, factory AM radio, and more. Painted blue with a dark blue convertible top over a blue leather interior, this classic Lincoln comes from the selling dealer with a transferable Georgia title.

The blue hue is quite pleasant and is nicely complemented by a dark blue power convertible top and blue top boot. Other features include rear fender skirts, left-hand chrome mirror, right-side antenna, longitudinal and rear-fender brightwork, hood and headlight ornaments, and more. A set of 15-inch wheels with Lincoln wheel covers is wrapped in 8.20-inch whitewall tires.

The interior features blue leather upholstery, with a power front bench seat up front. Other features include a column-mounted automatic shifter, power steering, power windows, and a factory AM radio.

Instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer and gauges for the oil pressure, coolant temperature, battery, and fuel level. The odometer currently reads 91,590, but the title states this vehicle is mileage-exempt.

The mechanically refreshed 317ci Y-block was rated at 205 horsepower when new, which was second-highest in Detroit. Topping the 8.0:1-compression V-8 is a four-barrel carburetor. This engine is backed by a four-speed Hydra-Matic automatic sourced from General Motors, which was a factory offering.

The undercarriage features updated front power disc brakes and a single-exit exhaust system.

Lincoln built only 2,372 Capri convertibles for 1953, which makes it something not often seen in Anywhere, USA. In fact, the car in our AutoHunter Spotlight was perhaps the most roadable car coming out of Detroit at the time. Imagine fine driving chops with a top that goes down — what fun! Seeing that you find this 1953 Lincoln Capri convertible tempting, I suggest bidding now because the auction will end on Friday, June 19, 2026, at 11:15 a.m. (PDT).
