The second-generation Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe has arrived, and unlike its predecessor, it’s fully electric. The latest version challenges the Porsche Taycan and Lotus Emeya globally, and it’s coming to the U.S. as an MY2027 vehicle.
We got a chance to be with the 2027 Mercedes-AMG GT 63 4-Door Coupe at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Here are our first impressions of the new EV:
Design
The 2027 Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe has familiar proportions but features a rather quirky design for key elements such as the lights, the nose section, and the detailing around those areas.
The front has a polarizing look, courtesy of the upswept curvy headlamps, and the large faux grille with a concave shape and illuminated vertical slats. The light band between the headlamps is another EV-typical design bit that looks rather odd on a car of this type.

On the sides, the compact greenhouse tapers towards the rear, and the 21-inch forged wheels help in weight reduction. The low height and muscular rear shoulders give the car a crouched stance.
The roofline seamlessly merges into a Kamm-style tail section of the car. A curved gloss black panel in the upper half of the rear integrates three turbine-design taillights on each side. An arch-like light band spanning completely across at the top of this panel is optional.
The 2027 GT 4-Door Coupe has several aero elements all around. It features electronically controlled louvers at the front, while at the rear, it has a retractable spoiler and an active diffuser. There are also two active aero elements in the underbody, one at the front and one at the center.
Interior

The 2027 Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe has a driver-focused interior with sporty design bits all around. Like every recently introduced Mercedes EV on the market, the cabin is highly digital, too.
The dashboard features a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14-inch infotainment touchscreen, and a 14-inch passenger touchscreen. The central display is angled towards the driver for better visibility. Turbine-style outer-end air vents with a galvanized finish provide a mechanical contrast.
The center console houses three driving dynamics rotary controls that carry a design similar to the outer-end air vents and are angled towards the driver like the central display. A flat-bottomed steering wheel features roller and rocker controls as well as two round buttons with built-in OLED displays.

Experience in the 2027 Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe
I spent time in the 2027 Mercedes-AMG GT 63 4-Door Coupe, and as expected, the cabin is clearly centered around the driver rather than rear-seat comfort, despite it having rear doors.
The front sport seats are very firm, but they provide good back support. Under-thigh support is only alright and not particularly generous. The fixed headrests still support my head reasonably well.
With the driver’s seat adjusted to my usual position for a 6-foot frame, I had about 4 inches of headroom beneath the glass roof. The pedal box is well designed, and you can’t miss the sporty metal pedals. The AMG steering wheel has a dual-material finish, with perforated sections along the sides that provide additional grip.

The cabin has carbon-fiber trim across multiple surfaces, giving it the appearance expected from an AMG. The combined instrument and infotainment display is angled toward the driver, making the settings easy to reach and view.
Climate functions are integrated into the screen, although audio, parking assistance, and Dynamic Select retain physical controls. The center console also has rotary controls for functions such as traction, agility, and response.
Practicality up front is reasonable. There are two wireless phone chargers, adjustable cupholders, a small compartment beneath the center armrest, and USB ports.
Getting into the rear takes more effort because of the low roofline, and I had to watch my head. With the front seat positioned for me, I had only about 0.5 inches of knee room remaining. This is clearly not a rear seat intended for a 6-footer.

Rear back support is alright, but the fixed headrests angle forward and are not particularly comfortable. I had around 2.4 inches of headroom beneath the glass roof. My size 12 shoes could slide only slightly under the front seat, and I sat with my knees raised.
Despite the car riding on a bespoke EV platform, the large center tunnel rises almost as high as the seat base, effectively ruling out a center passenger. Larger windows reduce the sense of confinement, while separate rear climate controls and reading lights provide basic comfort. Even so, the best seats are unquestionably in the front.
Specifications
The 2027 Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe debuts the new AMG.EA platform. It measures 200.6 in. in length, 77.1 in. in width, and 55.6 in. in height and has a 119.7 in. wheelbase.

Mercedes-AMG uses an F1-based 800-volt battery pack featuring directly cooled cylindrical cells in the 2027 GT 4-Door Coupe. This battery pack provides sustained power delivery and supports charging at up to 600 kW, with a 10-80% charging session taking just 11 minutes.
Three axial motors, developed by Mercedes-Benz Group-owned British e-motor specialist Yasa, power the car. Two motors located at the rear are the primary drive units, while a front-mounted motor activates when the car needs more power or traction on the front axle.
Customers can choose between two variants: 55 and 63. The 55 variant, with 805 hp and 1,328 lb-ft of torque, is estimated to take 2.4 seconds for a 0-60 mph sprint and reaches a top speed of 186 mph (with the optional AMG Performance Package).

The 63 variant packs 1,153 hp (with launch control engaged) and 1,475 lb-ft of torque. Mercedes-AMG expects it to reach 0 to 60 mph in 2.0 seconds but claims the same 186 mph (with the optional AMG Performance Package) top speed.
The battery pack has an energy storage capacity of 106 kWh (net). EPA estimates are still a few months away, but according to the WLTP standard applicable in Europe, it delivers a range of 690 km (429 miles) in the 55 variant and 686 km (426 miles) in the 63 variant.
Price & Release Date
The 2027 Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe could be priced at around USD 150,000 for the 55 variant and around USD 200,000 for the 63 variant. The former will go on sale in the U.S. in 2026, and the latter in early 2027.
