Alpine Celebrates 70 Years of Motorsport Legacy

Share

Alpine marked its 70th anniversary in style at the 82nd Goodwood Members’ Meeting. As lead automotive partner for the second year running, the French marque delivered a celebration that blended nostalgia with modern flair.

The festivities began with an unmissable sight: a 70-car track parade. At 9am sharp on Saturday 12 April, owners from around the world drove their cherished Alpines around the legendary Goodwood circuit. The moving tribute included everything from classic A110s, A310s, GTAs and A610s to the brand-new electric A290 hot hatch.

A historic display of Alpine’s motorsport legacy

The parade wasn’t just for show. It reminded everyone why the brand has been a force in motorsport since 1955. The brand was built on agility and lightness – core values championed by founder Jean Rédélé.

Over the decades, Alpine’s motorsport triumphs have piled up. Think Monte Carlo Rally wins, the 1973 World Rally Championship, and victory at Le Mans in 1978. More recently, the brand clinched the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix in Formula 1 and took multiple LMP2 titles before stepping up to the top-tier Hypercar category.

Alpine’s modern road cars take centre stage

Alongside the action on track, visitors explored Alpine’s current range in several static displays across the weekend. Star of the show? The Alpine A110 R Ultime.

Making its UK debut, this limited-edition model is more than just a pretty face. With only 110 units being made globally, the A110 R Ultime delivers serious performance. It boasts a 1.8-litre turbocharged engine, 345bhp*, 420Nm of torque and a 0-62mph time of 3.8 seconds. A bespoke aerodynamic package, fine-tuned suspension and a reworked exhaust system make this a road car with real track presence.

Also on display were the A110 GT, A110 S and A110 R – all showcasing Alpine’s trademark blend of lightness, sharp handling and everyday usability.

The all-electric Alpine A290 makes a bold statement

Alpine A 290

One of the weekend’s biggest talking points was the Alpine A290 – the brand’s first fully electric hot hatch. Due in 2025 and already crowned Car of the Year, the A290 introduces Alpine’s ethos to a new generation.

Compact, punchy and packed with character, the A290 promises performance with practicality. It’s Alpine’s answer to the next era of driving, with all the emotion of a classic hot hatch – but updated for the electric age.

A celebration rooted in history, driven by the future

Nic Burnside, Managing Director of Alpine Cars UK, summed it up well: “Alpine and Goodwood both carry a long and enviable racing heritage, making the Members’ Meeting the ultimate destination for motorsport enthusiasts and the perfect venue to continue our 70th anniversary celebrations.”

Alpine’s presence at Goodwood proved more than symbolic. It was a celebration of everything the brand stands for – and a strong signal of where it’s heading.
