AutoHunter Spotlight: 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T Tribute

Share

Currently listed for sale on AutoHunter is this 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T tribute. The Challenger was brand-new for 1970, and the R/T was the performance version. As this Challenger has received a 440 transplant, it has become an R/T tribute complete with “Bumblebee” stripe and R/T badges. Backing the 440 four-barrel is a 727 TorqueFlite automatic. Other features include dual chrome side mirrors, rear spoiler, Bluetooth-compatible JVC stereo with CD player, Wilwood power front disc brakes, and more. Painted Plum Crazy purple with white vinyl top and matching interior, this pony car is offered by the selling dealer with restoration receipts, fender tag decoder report, and clear title.

The exterior is painted in “FC7” Plum Crazy, which was the original color for this vehicle. The hue is complemented by a white rump stripe, which was one of two stripe choices for the R/T. Other features include white vinyl top, black rear spoiler, “Raisin Bran” hood (two scoops!) with black stripe, left- and right-side chrome mirrors, quick-fill gas cap, and quad exhaust tips. A set of 17-inch American Racing Torq Thrust wheels are wrapped in 275/40 Kumho Ecsta performance radials.

The white interior with front buckets features black components like dashboard and console. The door panels have woodgrain trim. Other features include standard instrument cluster, three-spoke steering wheel with power steering, and JVC AM/FM stereo with CD, auxiliary, USB, and Bluetooth capabilities.

Instrumentation includes 120-mph speedometer and gauges for the coolant temperature, alternator, and fuel. The odometer currently shows 58,110 miles, though the title reads mileage-exempt.

The 440 four-barrel that replaced the original 318 puts out more than what a stock R/T would have — in this case, 450 horsepower. Several features that help it achieve that level of power include Edelbrock intake, ceramic-coated headers, and aluminum radiator with electric fans. Playing a supporting role is the three-speed TorqueFlite automatic.

The undercarriage features an 8.75-inch rear with 3.90 limited-slip gears. Other features include Wilwood power front disc brakes and Flowmaster dual exhaust system.

If you glance at the fender tag of the vehicle in the car in this AutoHunter Spotlight, you’ll see it was built as a looker: Plum Crazy with white top and interior. All that was missing was horsepower, which now has been rectified. You could be looking at a ho-hum beige Challenger, but instead you have this car that was done right at birth, and the engine transplant has brought this pony into adulthood. Since everyone just loves Plum Crazy, we figure you’ll want to bid on this 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T tribute so do so before Monday, July 6, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. (PDT) or someone else will become the new owner.
