AutoHunter Spotlight: 1986 Jeep Cherokee Pioneer 4×4

Share

Right now on AutoHunter, you can find this two-door 1986 Jeep Cherokee Pioneer, which is powered by an LS 5.3-liter V-8 paired with a custom-built 4L60E four-speed automatic and an NP207 dual-range transfer case. Highlights include Vintage Air climate control, a three-inch lift, and an Eaton Detroit Truetrac differential. Finished in white with red pinstripes over a maroon patterned cloth and vinyl interior, this modified XJ Cherokee comes from the selling dealer in Oregon with a clean AutoCheck report and a clear title.

According to the seller, this two-door Cherokee still has its original white paint, body panels, and interior. It was put through a roughly 400-hour build process that upgraded its major mechanical components, which are detailed further down. Exterior features include a brush guard, black mirror caps, roof rails and cross bars, roof spoiler, swing-away spare tire carrier, and dark single exhaust outlet.

This Jeep crawls over obstacles on a set of 15-inch Ion alloy wheels wrapped in 31-inch Hercules Terra Trac rubber. Power disc brakes keep it from rolling off the edge of a cliff.

The cabin is outfitted with maroon vinyl and patterned cloth bucket front and bench rear seating. Features include cruise control, Vintage Air A/C and heat, and Kenwood AM/FM radio with a CD player.

Instrumentation consists of a 180-kph speedometer, tachometer, and gauges for the temperature, fuel level, oil pressure, and voltage. A Holley Terminator X engine management system display has been added. The odometer shows 133,621 kilometers (83,028 miles), but this vehicle is mileage-exempt, according to its title. The AutoCheck report’s last odometer reading of 82,671 miles was logged in March 2023.

Given that this is a 1986 model, it wasn’t available with the legendary 4.0-liter I-6 that came in 1987, but that’s OK. The original engine was pulled out anyway and replaced with a fuel-injected LS 5.3-liter V-8 that runs on Holley Terminator X engine management. The V-8 sends its power to roads and trails through a custom 4L60E four-speed automatic equipped with a 3,000-stall torque converter, Eaton Detroit Truetrac limited-slip differential, and NP207 transfer case.

This rig has a three-inch suspension lift and rides on Rough Country dampers, heavy-duty springs, and a Ford 8.8-inch rear end. The V-8 breathes through a three-inch mandrel-bent exhaust system with a 2.5-inch Y-pipe and a Flowmaster 50 Series muffler.

Jeep made a lot of Cherokees between 1984 and 2001, but it never produced one like this 1986 Cherokee Pioneer. You can get this lifted and V-8-powered XJ by placing the winning bid on it. Be sure to get your bids in before the auction ends on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. (PDT).
