Charge your EV at home and get paid up to CA$350 a year in Canada

Canadian EV drivers using compatible home chargers can now earn more money back for charging at home.

Toronto-based EV charger management software company ChargeLab announced today that it’s increasing payouts through its ChargeLab Rewards program to 10 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh) for all enrolled single-family homeowners in Canada. The company says that makes it the highest-paying carbon credit program of its kind for Canadian homeowners.

The updated program takes effect immediately. ChargeLab says there are no payout tiers, minimum payout requirements, or waiting periods before homeowners start earning rewards. Payments are made quarterly.

Based on the company’s current average home charging of more than 3,500 kWh a year, the average participant would receive more than CA$350 annually.

The program is funded in part through Canada’s Clean Fuel Regulations (CFR). ChargeLab earns carbon credits through the federal program and says it reinvests the revenue to expand EV charging infrastructure across Canada. The company notes that ChargeLab Rewards uses the CFR framework but isn’t operated by or officially partnered with the Canadian government.

One nice feature is that drivers likely don’t have to buy a new charger to join. ChargeLab Rewards works with existing OCPP-compatible home chargers from brands such as Autel, Leviton, Siemens, and Wallbox.

The ChargeLab app also lets drivers access several Canadian public charging networks without roaming fees, including SureCharge, Filgo, Nova Scotia Power, and the Ivy Charging Network.

The updated rewards are now available to single-family homeowners, and ChargeLab also offers versions of the program for multifamily properties and businesses.
