A recent survey from Toyota suggests a new 2028 Toyota Tundra TRD Raptor fighter is on the way. That’s right a true high-speed desert racer from the company is coming, here is our wish list.

2028 Toyota Tundra TRD Baja Name?

First, the survey asks respondents to weigh in on several possible names for the new 2028 Toyota Tundra model.

Our choice is Baja.

2028 Toyota Tundra TRD Raptor Fighter Known Details

Nothing is really known about the truck besides some spy photos that circulated online and the list of specifications Toyota added to the survey.

The company said this truck would have:

  • Long-Travel Suspension
  • 37″ All-Terrain Tires
  • Unique Wide Fenders
  • High-Clearance Bumpers
  • Powerful Engine

Light on details, high on promises.

New Supercharged V8 Engine

The first item on our wish list is for the Tundra to be more competitive with the Raptor R and Ram TRX trucks on the market. Even GM is looking at making the Chevy Silverado 1500 ZR2 and GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 more powerful according to reports.

Currently, the Tundra TRD Pro, the most off-road capable version of the truck, has the 3.4-liter twin-turbocharged V6 with a hybrid setup, 10-speed transmission producing 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque. Those numbers are competitive with the basic Raptor and Ram RHO, but doesn’t match the higher-end competitors mentioned above on the market.

For example, the Ford Raptor R, with the 5.2-liter supercharged V8 produces 720 horsepower and 640 lb-ft of torque, while the 2027 Ram TRX with the 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI V8 engine that produces 777 horsepower and 680 lb-ft of torque.

Toyota would need to match those numbers and will have to do so with a new engine family.

For those wondering, the high performance 5.0L naturally aspirated V8 engine (2UR-GSE) in the Lexus LC 500 is ending production in 2026. Lexus did recently mention they are working on a new V8 for a GR-badged supercar.

Suspension Changes

This model is going to be driven hard and fast for hours at a time and expected to do it day after day.

That means it needs a next-level suspension like the FOX Racing Shox with Live Valve technology as used in the Ford Raptor.

Upgraded front control arms, new rear suspension upgrades with stiffer springs and real-time damping technology.

This will allow you to go farther, faster for longer and you’ll wear out before the truck does.

Interior Upgrades

While the exterior changes are shown in the various photos, what about the interior?

First, Toyota needs to step up their interior for this new model. We are talking about a truck that will likely come in around $100,000, so it needs to feel like it.

Out with the plastic and in with much higher-quality materials, unique badges, a VIN specific badging for the center console like the competitors, heat/cool/massage, pano-moonroof, etc…

Basically, the works.

Cool Features

Finally, what cool features does this truck need? Well, all of it.

Not only should it come with all of Toyota’s off-road technology like CRAWL control, it should have some high-performance additions.

I’m talking about a launch control button, performance pages to measure 0-60 times and a special BAJA mode to let all hell go loose.

The bottom line is this truck is going to attract an elite customer and it has to feel that way inside and out. Engine performance has to be there, it has to be feel solid and the customer should feel like they could drive it through a brick wall and it will keep going. Money isn’t an issue.
