Darmstadt, Germany-based public transport operator HEAG mobilo operates over 150 buses and trams, and transports almost 50 million passengers per year. The company began electrifying in 2020 and now has 55 electric buses in its fleet, 46 of them Mercedes models. The latest addition to HEAG’s fleet consists of five battery-electric Mercedes‑Benz eCitaro 12‑meter solo buses.
The new three-door eCitaro is equipped with Daimler’s NMC3 battery generation. Each of HEAG’s new buses has six installed battery packs that deliver a total capacity of 588 kWh.
The new eCitaro has a range of safety and driver assistance features, including Daimler’s active emergency braking assistant Preventive Brake Assist 2 with extended pedestrian and cyclist detection, which was developed especially for city buses. Frontguard Assist warns of obstacles directly in front of the vehicle, and Sideguard Assist 2 monitors both sides and warns the driver of the risk of collision with pedestrians or cyclists. The eCitaro, which carries its heavy battery packs on the roof, comes with roll and pitch control as a standard feature.
All Daimler buses feature the Bus Data Centre as an interface to the digital connectivity services from Omniplus. HEAG mobilo uses the Omniplus On Uptime service, which transmits fault messages and diagnostic information to the workshop in real time; Omniplus Services On, which allows the prescribed driver card and mass storage downloads to be carried out remotely; and Omniplus On consumption analysis, which monitors and optimizes energy consumption.
