In a quick reversal, GM and Allison Transmissions have announced they will renew their brand partnership with 2026 GM HD trucks once again proudly displaying the Allison badge.
GM, Allison Renew Brand Partnership with 2026 GM HD Trucks
Last year, GM and Allison announced they didn’t reach a brand deal to extend their partnership going back to 2020.
GM said they were going to start shipping 2026 Chevy Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD trucks without badging and dealerships were told to remove advertising by the Spring of 2026.
Today, GM has announced they have come to an agreement with Allison to put the badges back on the trucks.
GM issued this statement:
“We wanted to make you aware that GM and Allison Transmission have agreed to continue their longstanding collaboration, helping to produce capable and dependable HD trucks that our Chevrolet and GMC customers rely on. Soon, the Allison Transmission badge will be reintroduced to production of 2026 model year Chevy and GMC HD trucks.
As you know, GM and Allison have a long history of working together to develop tough, dependable transmissions. This agreement will reinforce to customers that Chevy and GMC HD Trucks are equipped with trusted, Allison-branded 10L1000 10-speed transmission that delivers the performance, capability and durability customers expect.”
Medium-duty trucks like the Chevy Silverado 4500, 5500 and 6500 have Allison-built transmissions.
Many critics thought this wasn’t related to the brand deal, rather it clearly had to do with the reputation of the 10-speed automatic transmission and the related rear wheel-lock up issue that was fixed with a new valve body.
Clearly, those critics were wrong. This was simply a business deal that needed more time to work out. Period.
