In a recent letter to shareholders, GM CEO Mary Barra confirmed both a new 2027 Chevy Silverado 1500 and 2027 GMC Sierra are coming out this year.

The language in the automaker’s Q4 2025 earnings report simply states “Chevrolet and GMC will reveal the new Silverado and Sierra this year.”

This confirmation just reinforces what we have seen from spy photos and the leaked designs that we turned into actual AI renderings. Simply put, we’ve known something was coming for a while and this is going to be a massive overhaul of both trucks.

Everything from design, powertrains, technology, trim levels, packages and more will be redone for the 2027 model year.

Literally, out with the old and in with the new.

The best look of the new trucks is for the 2027 Chevy Silverado 1500 that was leaked from the United States Patent and Trademark Office that we turned into AI renderings here.

Basically, it is an evolutionary change to the exterior with some key changes including flatter wheel arches, new exhaust tips and possibly the loss of the antenna on the hood.

It is very similar to the 2025 Chevy Tahoe refresh and this makes sense with designers wanting to keep their vehicles often looking similar across a brand’s lineup.

New Interior Design

Both of the trucks will feature an overhaul on the interior dash layout and are expected to continue a trend with improved seat comfort.

The interior dash layout will see the infotainment screen change to be more incorporated into the dash. The 2023 model year refresh reworked the interior dash to be more competitive, but it was really just a band-aid until the designers could start over from scratch.

For seat comfort, the new generations of the SUVs and EVs are all seeing seats with wider seat bottoms and more plush seating surfaces.

New V8 Engines

The latest information we have on new engines is a focus on the 5.3L V8 and 6.2L V8 engines being replaced.

Expected for 2027:

  • Staying:
    • 2.7L Turbo High Output four-cylinder
    • 3.0L Duramax diesel
  • Going away: Existing 5.3L and 6.2L V8s
  • Incoming: Two all-new V8 engines, supported by an $888 million investment at GM’s New York engine plant.

GM has confirmed that the new V8s will include hybrid or plug-in hybrid technology, designed to meet the stricter 2027–2032 EPA emissions rules. These engines are expected to feature modern efficiency technologies such as cylinder deactivation, lightweight oils, auto start-stop, and potentially gasoline particulate filters like in the Ford F-150.

GM is also investing an additional $300 million to upgrade its Michigan transmission plant, signaling ongoing refinement of its 10-speed automatic — including a new valve body to address previous rear-wheel lockup issues.

These trucks should make their debut sometime in the 2nd quarter of 2026 and go on sale later this year.
