With more than 650,000 units sold across three generations spanning 25+ years, the Audi TT is one of the four-ringed brand’s most iconic cars. Production ended in November 2023, but some markets had the final units in stock well after its discontinuation. One of them is Thailand, where I got to spend time in a Vegas Yellow unit on display at the 2025 Bangkok International Motor Show.
Revival Plans
Audi has no plans to renew the TT for a fourth generation, at least not with an engine under the hood. That said, the company is open to the idea of a fully electric sports car that captures its essence. In this article, we’ll discuss the five key things we expect from the electric successor to the Audi TT.
Platform
Volkswagen Group’s SSP would be a fitting choice for the Audi TT successor. Like MEB which underpins the Q4 e-tron, SSP will be a cluster of platforms for various segments of cars, ranging from as small and simple as the all-new Golf EV (ninth-gen Golf) and the first-ever T-Roc EV to as big and as sophisticated as the Porsche K1 three-row SUV.
Acceleration & Range

While the most extreme Audi TT RS hit 0 to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds, its successor could potentially do it in as little as 3.0 seconds. Audi may need to reserve sub-3-second figures for larger, more premium models, which may include not only a future electric equivalent/successor of the two-door RS 5 but also the replacement for the R8, the production of which ceased in March 2024.
While the discontinued gas-powered compact sports car touched 174 mph on the Audi-first digital instrument cluster, its zero-emissions successor may have a higher target of 180 mph in its most extreme variant.
Rivian-based infotainment

Volkswagen Group plans to leverage Rivian’s expertise in the E/E architecture for its SSP-based models, and a potential Audi TT successor would be no exception. Thus, customers can look forward to a slick and intuitive user interface and plenty of connectivity and entertainment options.
While Rivian does not offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in its EVs, we are certain the software it develops for Volkswagen Group’s infotainment systems will feature those popular smartphone connectivity solutions.
More rounded look
Given the strong emphasis automakers give to aerodynamic efficiency in the electric era, we think the Audi TT successor would have a more rounded look. A more streamlined silhouette and fewer character lines should lead to lower drag (Audi TT: 0.31 Cd), helping the car reduce energy consumption.

Pricing and launch
The Audi TT successor could debut as early as 2028 and could be priced from just under USD 60,000.
