Jozef Kaban hints at more emotional MG EVs following Cyberster

MG’s electric future may not be limited to everyday hatchbacks, crossovers, and family SUVs. And while MG has yet to return to the U.S. with its modern lineup, the brand is not unknown to American car lovers.

Classic MG roadsters, especially the MGB following World War II, gave the brand a strong following in North America, and an emotional EV push will matter if MG ever gets an opportunity to re-enter the U.S. and Canada. The brand is steadily growing in neighboring Mexico, following its launch there in 2020.

New emotional MGs

Jozef Kaban, the company’s global design vice president, who was talking exclusively to TopElectricSUV.com on the sidelines of KLIMS 2026 in Malaysia, suggested that its flagship product, the Cyberster, has a larger role inside the brand in the markets that it currently serves, and hinted that more emotional MG EVs are on the way.

Asked how MG plans to develop the Cyberster going forward, Kaban described the electric roadster as having a “very special and very important” role for the brand. He called it “the ambassador of the brand,” and said the car is helping MG show “our heritage and strong connection to the glorious past” as well as “the powerful innovations.”

Cyberster lifecycle

The Cyberster is currently one of the few electric convertibles on sale globally, and it occupies an unusual space in the EV market. While many automakers are focused on SUVs, sedans and performance crossovers, MG has taken a different route by adding a two-seat electric roadster.

Kaban suggested that the Cyberster is not a short-lived halo model. MG is going to “work with this product” for a longer time because it is “something what doesn’t get old very quick.”

Kaban said “it is a car which is more focused on the driver,” adding that “you feel to have a dialogue with each corner that you’re taking.”

Brother to the Cyberster

The Cyberster gives MG an emotional flagship, but Kaban suggested it will not be alone for very long. “There will be some more cars coming,” Kaban said, adding that they would help the Cyberster build an even stronger brand.

He then gave the clearest hint that MG has more emotional products on the way. “Get ready, it’s coming soon,” Kaban said. He added that MG’s future will not have “only one Cyberster.”

When asked whether he was referring to the Cyberster coupe concept shown earlier, Kaban said MG had shown that version and received “positive feedback,” but will “still keep it open,” regarding its market introduction.

Importantly, Kaban also indicated that he may not have been referring to a Cyberster derivative. Asked whether he meant Cyberster variants or something else, he said: “Maybe even something else!”

A Goodwood surprise?

That comment is notable because MG has since confirmed that it will show two new concept cars at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed next month. One will preview a B-segment electric hatchback due in 2027, while the other is described as an electric design vision.

While nothing is official, the second Goodwood display could fit the broader emotional direction he appeared to be hinting at.

Performance models part of the plan

Kaban also suggested that performance will remain important for MG. Asked about the future of XPower, he said that the more-power versions are “part of the history” and “part of the DNA of the brand.”

He linked that directly to MG’s sporting past. “From the first day when the brand was born, we’ve been chasing the speed and we’ve been chasing even the records,” Kaban said.

Whether MG uses the XPower name or something else, Kaban said more powerful versions are part of the brand’s DNA and will become “even more integrated” in future cars.

He suggested that this performance component is already present in MG’s cars and will be “even more integrated,” though he added that how MG will define or name it is something the company will “keep it as well open.”

For Kaban, MG’s future cars need to offer more than simple transport. He said the cars MG makes are “not only to bring you from A to B,” adding that “the way how they bring you from A to B” should be “special.”
