Next-gen Acura RDX Hybrid forecasted ahead of its 2027 launch

Update (May 19, 2026): ‘Design’ and ‘Interior’ updated.

The next-gen Acura RDX is still a while way. However, with the current model set to be phased out later this year, Honda’s premium performance brand has released early information to keep interest in the nameplate alive.

Here’s everything we know and expect from Acura’s next-gen compact premium SUV.

Design

Last fully redesigned in 2018, the Acura RDX is showing its age and is in need of a substantial makeover to keep pace with newer rivals such as the Audi Q5, Lexus NX, Mercedes GLC, and the BMW X3.

Moving into its fourth generation, the SUV will adopt a bolder and more aggressive exterior. These design cues are evident, as they align with the near-production ‘Acura Hybrid SUV’ prototype introduced at a global Honda business briefing held on May 14, 2026.

The next-gen RDX will borrow cues from the Acura RSX Prototype and integrate them into a relatively conventional silhouette that gives it both more space and a more authentic SUV stance.

At the front, a concave nose and split headlamps, with sleek horizontal daytime running lights positioned at the top and the low- and high-beam lights stacked into a vertical housing lower in the bumper, would project aggression.

Acura will likely use a faux Diamond Pentagon grille on the next-gen RDX, with cooling needs for the components served by a large A-shaped air intake positioned below this covered panel. Sculpted lines on the hood would further enhance the front-end presence.

On the sides, semi-flush door handles, new multi-spoke alloy wheels, a sleeker greenhouse, and the absence of door molding strip should give the next-gen RDX a more stylish look. The door and quarter panels are set to feature smoother, more sculpted surfacing to reinforce that effect.

The rear-end will likely adopt a more dynamic look, featuring a tailgate with a steeply raked upper section and a concave lower section housing slim taillights and minimalist Acura branding.

Interior

The interior of the next-gen Acura RDX should borrow inspiration from the recently discontinued ZDX (pictured).

The interior of the next-gen Acura RDX will be overhauled. We expect a low, horizontal dashboard that has a floating look inspired by the ZDX and forms a visual connection with the front door panels.

A cleaner center console with fewer physical controls and a sleeker profile is also likely to be among the key interior changes.

Features

It’s a given that Acura will equip the next-gen RDX with a new virtual instrument cluster and touchscreen infotainment system, both with a revised user interface. The latter should include Google built-in, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and Wi-Fi hotspot capability.

An upgraded wireless smartphone charger with a higher output and a cooling function, memory front seats, and a more advanced sound system could be among the other main interior improvements.

Next-gen ADAS

The all-new RDX should come with the next-gen AcuraWatch suite of advanced driver assistance systems, expected to be introduced in 2028. At the annual business briefing on May 14, 2026,

Honda President and global CEO Toshihiro Mibe said that the company plans to introduce its next-gen ADAS in more than 15 models over five years, starting in 2028. Customers will be able to hand over acceleration and steering throughout the route on both expressways and surface roads, Acura stated in a related press announcement later.

Specifications

The first-ever Acura RDX Hybrid could feature a 2.0-liter direct-injection gas engine assisted by an electric motor.

We expect the new Acura RDX to utilize Honda’s next-generation mid-size platform, which is 90 kg (198 lbs.) lighter than the current one. Acura has confirmed that it will offer the incoming RDX with a hybrid powertrain for the first time in its fourth generation.

Acura says this will be a two-motor hybrid system, which we expect to be based on a 2.0-liter direct-injection gas engine. One of the motors will serve as a generator, while the other unit will serve as a secondary drive unit.

The company may also include a virtual gearbox for a more engaging driving feel. We expect a fuel economy of 35-40 mpg (EPA-est, combined), with a combined output of well over 200 hp.

Price & Release Date

The RDX hybrid is expected to arrive at dealerships within the next couple of years, and we’re thrilled to share this news as Acura celebrates its 40th anniversary—making this milestone even more special.
