It seems only fitting that a “Baby Bird” comes painted in baby blue. Model year 1957 would mark the final year of the first-generation, two-seat Thunderbird — just before it grew by about two feet in length. The Pick of the Day is a one-family-owned 1957 Ford Thunderbird Convertible listed for sale on ClassicCars.com by a private seller in Novato, California.
“This car was purchased in San Francisco in April 1957 by Dr. Gerson Biskind,” the listing says. “The original invoice from Geary Motors and first California registration card available. This car has always been kept inside, stored and covered when not driving.”

One of the compelling things about the car, besides that beautiful blue paint job, is the fact that it comes with a retractable soft top (replaced in 2015) as well as a porthole-equipped hardtop. By the way, when the ’57 Thunderbird was new, you could also order a hardtop without portholes, at no extra cost. Exterior features include chrome bumpers, passenger-side mirror, wheel skirts, and wide-whitewall tires.

Interior features include a bench seat with ivory vinyl upholstery, lap belts, power steering, Town & Country radio, branded floor mats, clock, dash cover, and newer carpeting.

Under the hood is a Y-block V-8 with either 292ci or 312ci displacement. The latter used a single Holley four-barrel carburetor and was rated at 245 horsepower. The seller says, “Only 2,042 miles has been driven since March 17, 2014. The engine, brakes and front end were overhauled in 2013.” The current odometer reading is 29,365 miles.

The 1957 Thunderbird brochure says, “Town car luxury and convenience write the last line of the exciting new Thunderbird story — a story that goes straight to your heart the minute you lay a hand on the wheel of this magic-filled car. Go ahead. You have nothing to lose but your cares.”
The thought of a carefree, top-down cruise is pretty compelling right now!
The asking price of $55,000 will include an owner’s manual and a shop manual.
