Pricey Lexus LM 350h offers comfort, exclusivity

The Lexus LM 350h is a luxury hybrid people mover developed for chauffeur-focused and premium personal transport applications. Internationally, the model is offered in six-seat, seven-seat, and four-seat Ottoman specification, all designed primarily for rear-seat travel.

While it isn’t offered in the U.S. and Canada, at the recent Thai Motor Expo, I spent time with the Lexus hybrid minivan to assess its layout, features, and comfort, and the observations that follow are based on that evaluation.

Design

At the front, the LM 350h features slim LED headlamps with D-shaped daytime running lights surrounding three primary lighting elements positioned high on the fascia. These are visually linked by a narrow horizontal trim strip.

The main grille follows Lexus’ current design playbook, using a large integrated hexagonal form with a repeating block pattern and chrome-finished elements. This design takes the traditional spindle grille and extends from below the upper black trim section down to the lower bumper.

From the side, the LM 350h follows a long-wheelbase minivan profile with a short hood and extended roofline. The shoulder line runs from the front door to the rear quarter panel with subtle changes in direction to manage visual length.

Power-operated sliding doors, controllable from the center console, are standard. A thick chrome trim outlines the window area and extends into the rear quarter glass. The sliding door rails are neatly integrated beneath the rear side glass.

At 1,890 mm (74.4 inches), the LM isn’t all that wide. Hence, designers have used chrome decor and lighting elements extending into the quarter panels to give it a sense of width. A full-width light bar spans the tailgate, with Lexus lettering positioned centrally. An additional upper lamp element is integrated to improve rear visibility.

Exterior color options include white, black, silver titanium, and deep red. All configurations are fitted with 19-inch multi-spoke forged alloy wheels finished in silver.

Interior

The interior layout of the LM 350h prioritizes rear-seat comfort. Driver information is displayed on a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, while front-seat infotainment is handled by a 14-inch touchscreen.

In the seven-seat configuration, rear passengers receive a 14-inch ceiling-mounted display. The four-seat Ottoman version is equipped with a 48-inch ultra-wide rear display mounted behind a full-length partition.

Wireless charging is provided at the front center console in the seven-seat model, while the four-seat version features a rear wireless charging compartment. USB Type-C ports are available across both rows in all configurations.

The four-seat Ottoman configuration replaces the second and third rows with two individual rear seats separated by a fixed partition. These seats feature powered recline to a horizontal position, integrated ottoman footrests, and multi-mode massage functions operated via touch control panels in the armrests.

Rear-seat equipment includes fold-away tables, reading lights, powered sunshades for the side windows and rear glass, and a rear entertainment system. A 14-liter refrigerator is positioned within reach of rear passengers in the four-seat configuration.

The seven-seat version uses a conventional three-row layout. Storage solutions vary by configuration and include rear luggage space, seat-integrated storage areas, and additional compartments depending on seating layout.

Interior upholstery uses hand-stitched leather with embossed headrests. The front-wheel-drive base model is finished exclusively in black leather, while AWD layouts offer a choice of black or sand-colored leather.

Experience in the Lexus LM

Front-door access in the Lexus LM350h is aided by reasonably wide-opening doors, though the doors themselves are heavy and close with a solid, damped feel. The driver’s seat offers high levels of comfort even for a six-footer, with strong back support, good thigh support, and generous headroom.

The wide center armrest and well-padded door panels provide comfortable resting points for both my arms. Under-thigh support is adequate, and outward visibility benefits from large quarter-glass panels. The steering wheel feels chunky and substantial.

Access to the second row requires stepping up slightly, with grab handles aiding entry. The second-row cabin features two large captain’s chairs that resemble aircraft business-class seating.

These seats include extendable under-thigh supports and integrated footrests, improving comfort on long road trips. Back support, headroom, and thigh support are excellent. Fold-out tray tables are integrated into the armrests, and grab handles on the seatbacks assist ingress and egress.

Rear passengers receive roof-mounted air vents, overhead climate controls, and powered roof and side sunshades, creating a premium rear-cabin layout.

Access to the third row is enabled by a release tab on the second-row seat base, which slides the seat forward. As it is usually the case, the third-row seats are less plush than the second row but remain usable for adults. Under-thigh support and back support are adequate, and large headrests improve comfort.

Third-row occupants receive USB ports, cup holders, individual screens, roof-mounted air vents, and small overhead storage, maintaining a very high level of comfort and features compared to typical minivan third rows.

Specifications

The LM 350h is powered by a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated gas engine paired with a hybrid system producing a combined output of 250 hp (184 kW). Power is delivered to either the front wheels or all wheels, depending on configuration, through an electronically controlled CVT.

Top speed is limited to 118 mph. Maximum electric-only speed is limited to 78 mph. Acceleration from 0-62 mph takes 9.1 seconds for the front-wheel-drive model and 8.7 seconds for the all-wheel-drive version.

Fuel consumption (WLTP) is rated at 42.1 mpg for the former (35.1 in U.S. mpg conversion), and 39.2 mpg for the latter (32.6 in U.S. mpg) with a fuel tank capacity of 60 liters (15.8 gallons).

Pricing

The Lexus LM 350h is available through Lexus UK dealerships. Pricing is steep, starting at GBP 94,595 (USD 126,610) for the front-wheel-drive model. The all-wheel-drive version starts at GBP 97,595 (USD 130,620), while the Takumi all-wheel-drive specification is priced from GBP 117,595 (USD 157,387).

Lexus LM in the U.S.

Lexus hasn’t presented the LM in the U.S., and the few examples seen in this part of the world are courtesy of private importers.

While Lexus may refrain from publicly commenting on the LM’s U.S. and Canadian launch, it’s evident that the minivan isn’t a red-hot segment in North America, with more buyers opting for SUVs. Secondly, it is likely that the LM, which shares its bones with the Toyota Alphard, may not meet the stringent safety norms mandated in the U.S.

Lastly, tariffs on cars imported from Japan under the Donald Trump administration stand at 15%, which makes pricing it reasonably harder.
