Proton revealed on December 4 that its 2026 sales target was 180,000 units – well, according to CEO Dr Li Chunrong, this has now been increased to 200,000, which is 26% more than the 157,976 units it sold in 2025, itself just 3.3% better than 2024. Extremely exponential expectations not excluding exports.
For this to be achieved, Proton aims for the Saga to be Malaysia’s No 1 model, Proton eMas to be the country’s No 1 EV brand and the eMas 7 PHEV to be the nation’s No 1 PHEV.
Maintained is the ‘30+30+30 by 2030‘ target, which comprises 330,000 units (first announced in January 2025), 30% of them hybrids and EVs, 30% sold outside Malaysia and 30 export markets (these three were announced last month).
The carmaker targets to “graduate from university” in 2027 with over 227,000-unit sales – this number is significant because it’s the highest annual sales Proton has ever done in its history. By 2029, it aims to be Malaysia’s best-selling carmaker, which means toppling the mighty Perodua (currently ASEAN’s No 2).
