A round up of brief pickup, SUV and automotive news items of note from the week ending February 6, 2026.

We see a lot of news stories cross our desks in the course of a week. Not all of them are big enough to warrant a full writeup by your tireless Pickup Truck+SUV Talk staff, so we’re bringing you this weekly round up of all the little stories we thought you might want to know about.

Hidden Handle Ban

Those freedom-hating Chinese have struck again, becoming the first government in the world to ban hidden car-door handles. After 2027, no longer will Chinese consumers have the freedom to die inside a car due to an incident that causes electrical failure. Outrageous.

Affected models include BMW’s iX3 and Tesla’s Model Y, Model 3, and presumably the Cybertruck if they could ever get it authorized for sale in the Chinese market…

Cybertruck Door Failure

What’s worse, a door that won’t open, or one that won’t stay shut? Trick question: they’re both terrible, and somehow the Cybertruck manages to have both? One Oakland Cybertruck owner is reporting his door flew open as he entered the highway! He pins the incident on a failed bolt, which he was kind enough to post an image of (see above). Just add it to the list of epic Cybertruck fails…

  • RAM – 1500 Bighorn, Tradesman, Laramie, Rebel, Tungsten, Limited + $450
  • RAM – 1500 RHO + $750
  • RAM – 2500/3500 + $370

Toyota Tundra & Tacoma Place Among Top 2026 Residual Value Awards

The J.D. Power 2026 U.S. ALG Residual Value Awards have announced their winners and Toyota’s Tundra and Tacoma both made the list, along with the Ford Bronco, Jeep Wrangler and, somehow, Tesla’s Cybertruck. This prestigious award is based on a vehicle’s estimated value at the end of its lease term, and presumably serves as a yardstick to determine the resale value of various models. If you’d like to know more, allow us to point you to the press release.
