The JAECOO 7 Gets a ‘Black Luxury’ Trim, 53-MPG Hybrid Powertrain and More Power

While the American automotive market is currently starved for affordable hybrid SUVs, European drivers are reaping the benefits of a massive overseas change. Chinese automaker Chery International has been absolutely dominating the UK sales charts with its new JAECOO 7, and the company just announced a major expansion to the lineup.

Following a record-breaking debut year that saw the JAECOO 7 become the fifth most popular car in the UK in February 2026, the brand is officially introducing two new variants: a highly efficient, self-charging full hybrid and a murdered-out luxury edition.

The Affordable SHS-H Full Hybrid

Until now, electrified JAECOO buyers had to rely on the brand’s plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models. However, the all-new SHS-H (Super Hybrid System – Hybrid) offers a brilliant alternative for drivers who want excellent fuel economy without the hassle of plugging in every night.

Under the hood, the SHS-H pairs a heavily optimized 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with a self-charging electric motor. The setup pumps out a highly respectable 221 horsepower (224 PS), allowing the SUV to sprint from 0 to 62 mph in 8.3 seconds. More importantly, thanks to intelligent thermal management and a Deep Miller Cycle combustion system, the JAECOO 7 achieves an impressive 53 mpg on the WLTP cycle.

Premium Features on a Budget

What makes the JAECOO 7 such a massive threat to legacy automakers like Ford and Toyota is its incredible value proposition. The new SHS-H full hybrid starts at just £29,195 (roughly $37,000 USD). Even the base “Pure” trim comes absolutely loaded with premium features, including:

  • A massive 13.2-inch infotainment screen.
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
  • A refrigerated center console.
  • Dual-zone climate control and standard parking sensors.

Stepping up to the “Deluxe” trim pushes the price to £32,795 (roughly $41,500 USD) but swaps the tweed cloth seats for eco-leather and upgrades the cabin with an eight-speaker sound system and an even larger 14.8-inch central display.

The Black Luxury Edition

For buyers who want a more aggressive aesthetic, JAECOO is also rolling out the SHS-P Black Luxury edition for its plug-in hybrid model. Starting at £36,500 (roughly $46,500 USD), this top-tier trim murders out the compact SUV with a blacked-out grille, dark exterior badging, and sleek black roof rails. The stealthy treatment continues inside the cabin, which features a matching dark headliner and blacked-out sun visors.

Every JAECOO 7 model is backed by a massive seven-year/100,000-mile warranty. While strict tariffs currently keep these feature-packed, affordable SUVs off American shores, their explosive success across the pond proves that Chinese automakers are ready to go toe-to-toe with the biggest names in the global industry.
