Proton has announced the appointment of Datuk Abdul Rashid Musa as its new deputy CEO, effective November 1, 2025. Reporting directly to Li Chunrong, Rashid brings with him over 30 years of experience in engineering, manufacturing and product development.
During his previous tenure with the national carmaker, he served as chief technical officer before taking on the role of CEO of Proton Edar, the latter seeing him involved in the launch of the X70 in 2018. After Proton, Rashid oversaw major portfolios within UMW Holdings Berhad, including heading the aerospace division, as well as leading initiatives in mobility, innovation and sustainable development aligned with the national agenda.
Rashid replaces Ainol Azmil who was previously covering deputy CEO, a role he assumed after Roslan Abdullah stepped down in June this year. Ainol will resume his roles as vice president of corporate strategy as well as senior director of the group technical procurement division at Proton.
“Proton is delighted to welcome back Datuk Abdul Rashid Musa. His wealth of experience and insight into the Malaysian automotive industry and his familiarity with our operations will play a key role in supporting our transformation and advancing the company’s growth. At the same time, we would also like to say thank you to Ainol Azmil who capably served as covering deputy CEO from June 10 to October 31 this year” said Li Chunrong, CEO of Proton.
