Australian order books have opened for the updated Xpeng G6 mid-size electric SUV, which undercuts the Tesla Model Y, BYD Sealion 7 and Zeekr 7X on price while gaining two new Performance variants.
The refreshed G6 will arrive in showrooms later in July 2026 in a four-member lineup with styling tweaks and technology upgrades, priced from $51,800 before on-road costs – $3000 less than the outgoing model.
It’s the first update for the G6 since Xpeng launched its own distribution in Australia, after the brand was previously handled exclusively by TrueEV. The two companies are currently battling the move in Federal Court.
The range has been expanded from two to four variants, with minor styling tweaks, ultra-fast charging across the lineup, plus up to 525km of WLTP driving range.

The G6 RWD Standard Range opens the range, priced at $51,800 before on-road costs and offering up to 480km of WLTP range from a single charge.
It undercuts entry-level versions of the BYD Sealion 7 ($54,990 before on-road costs), Zeekr 7X ($57,900 before on-road costs) and Tesla Model Y ($58,900 before on-road costs).
The entry-level G6 is powered by a 185kW/440Nm rear-mounted electric motor and a 68.5kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, with a claimed 0-100km/h acceleration time of 6.94 seconds.
Standard equipment includes 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, an NFC card key, a panoramic glass roof, Nappa leather upholstery, and power-adjustable front seats with heating, ventilation and massage.
There’s also a 15.6-inch central touchscreen and 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, as well as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and an 18-speaker sound system.
The G6 features the ‘XPILOT’ driver assistance suite with greater processing power from an Nvidia Orin-X chip.
Standard safety equipment includes seven airbags, adaptive cruise control, lane centring, automatic lane change, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic parking assist and a surround-view camera.
The next step up is the RWD Long Range, priced at $56,800 before on-road costs. It brings up to 525km of WLTP range on standard 20-inch alloy wheels thanks to a larger 80.8kWh LFP battery, with outputs increasing to 218kW/440Nm and the claimed 0-100km/h time dropping slightly to 6.7 seconds.
In a statement, Xpeng said its ‘5C’ fast charging technology can replenish the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in as little as 12 minutes, providing up to 427km of range in the Long Range which also supports DC fast charging at up to 451kW. Vehicle-to-load capability of up to 6kW is standard across the range.
Two G6 Performance variants will be offered: the AWD Performance, priced at $63,800 before on-road costs, and the AWD Performance Black Edition at $66,800 before on-road costs.
Both use the same 358kW/660Nm dual-motor powertrain and larger 80.8kWh LFP battery, with claimed 0-100km/h acceleration in 4.15 seconds and up to 510km of WLTP range on standard 20-inch alloy wheels.
The Black Edition adds a monochromatic appearance package, offered exclusively in black paint with black 20-inch alloy wheels, black brake calipers, black exterior badging and a smoked front bumper light strip.
In addition to the updated G6, Xpeng lists the X9 electric people mover – a rival to the Zeekr 009 and Denza D9 – as an upcoming model on its Australian website.
The switch to factory distribution has seen Xpeng brand sales recorded for the first time in the VFACTS report published by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI). A total of 24 deliveries were recorded in June.
That came just after the Tesla Model Y became the first electric vehicle (EV) to top Australia’s overall monthly sales charts, regardless of fuel type, in May.
The Model Y repeated the feat in June 2026, when Australia recorded its highest-ever monthly EV market share of 23.3 per cent alongside record overall new vehicle sales.
