Pick of the Day: 1959 Chevrolet Apache

What would you like as a Father’s Day present? I’m guessing it’s not a cheesy tie or a coffee mug. If you want a classic American truck (even if it’s a gift to yourself), check out our Pick of the Day. You can find this 1959 Chevrolet Apache pickup listed on ClassicCars.com by a dealership in Sarasota, Florida. Sure, it won’t get to you by tomorrow, but it’ll be worth the wait. (In the meantime, you can see an exterior/interior tour and the engine being started up in the video below.)

In 1958, Chevrolet renamed its “Task Force” line of trucks and equipped them with quad round headlights. The light-duty model became the Apache, the medium-duty offering turned into the Viking, and the heavy-duty truck was rebadged as the Spartan. For 1959, among other changes, Chevrolet made minor styling revisions and equipped the Apache’s Thriftmaster 235.5ci I-6 with a new camshaft design that boosted torque slightly to 217 lb-ft (although horsepower went down five to 135).

You really can’t lose when it comes to the design of these trucks. They look great with patina or, in this truck’s case, a frame-off restoration. The Neptune Green finish pairs well with the Stepside bed’s white side stakes and the wide-whitewall tires — including the one mounted on the driver side. Inside the bed, the floor is lined with black walnut wood planks.

The inside of the cab was updated with new black and green upholstery on the bench seat. No matter which music you jam to on the radio or the CD changer (this dad is on a Hootie & the Blowfish kick), you’ll always at least feel cool, thanks to the Vintage Air A/C system.

Despite these changes, one thing remains constant: the original 235.5ci I-6, which is paired with a three-on-the-tree manual transmission plus an electric fan.

From one dad to another, I wish you a happy Father’s Day. If your spouse or your kid(s) buys this 1959 Chevrolet Apache for you as the ultimate Father’s Day present, you won’t have to ask how much they spent on it because I’ll tell you right now: $53,950.
