Pick of the Day: 1961 Chevrolet Suburban Carryall

There are a few basic routes you can take with a vintage vehicle: You can keep it completely stock, make it glaringly updated with 21st-century parts, or blend old-school originality with new components that aren’t immediately obvious. Our Pick of the Day has traveled down that third road. You can find this 1961 Chevrolet Suburban Carryall listed on ClassicCars.com by a dealership in Clifton Park, New York. It comes with a spare tire and set of seats.

The 1960 model year brought new “Fore-Runner styling,” a roomier and safer cabin, and a more comfortable ride quality to the Suburban. The 1961 model you see here has some new things of its own, but they don’t jump out at you as whoever built this rig tastefully modernized it. With its two-tone turquoise and white paint scheme, and Chevrolet hub caps, it doesn’t look like a rolling anachronism — you can still tell that it’s visually rooted in the ’60s.

But if you look in certain areas, you can tell what’s been done to this Suburban to make it more convenient and comfortable to use in 2026. Behind those two elliptical openings in the hood is a fuel-injected LS3 6.2-liter V-8 crate engine with 490 horsepower. According to the selling dealer, it’s equipped with a Holley Terminator X Max system, Lokar intake, and Lokar serpentine accessory drive kit. A Gearstar Level 3 4L80E four-speed automatic channels that grunt to a rebuilt 12-bolt Positraction rear end while an X-pipe and dual exhaust outlets broadcast the LS3’s soundtrack.

Inside, you won’t find a massive touchscreen jammed in the dash or some other modern feature that sticks out like a sore thumb. Yes, there’s newer two-tone gray upholstery, Dakota Digital gauges, and a Lokar shifter, but it all blends in nicely. Power steering and brakes, and Vintage Air A/C and heat keep the driver and all three rows of passengers happy.

If you like this 1961 Chevrolet Suburban Carryall‘s tasteful combination of yesteryear and modern times, contact the selling dealer for the price.
